Reasons Why 2018 Is Going To Be Awesome

The Vaccines, Pale Waves and Tom Grennan are all going to have new albums out – that’s why!

The Vaccines

The unmistakable four-piece have been gearing up towards their comeback for a long time, and since they posted the album’s first track ‘I Can’t Quit’ our ears are perked and ready for the full album.

We’ve loved The Vaccines since 2011’s ‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?’, the album which propelled them into the limelight with hits such as ‘Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra)’, ‘Blow It Up’ and ‘Post Break-Up Sex’. Their twangy, brass brazen indie sound had us captured from that day, and before long The Vaccines were a British household name.

As we all know, with each huge party comes a downtime – and that’s exactly what happened in The Vaccines’ three-year hiatus between ‘English Graffiti’ and the newly announced ‘Combat Sports’. The album was late last year given a release date of 30th March, but it wasn’t until last week we were gifted the incredibly banging ‘I Can’t Quit’. As stated on their Twitter post, the waiting almost killed them – and we have to say, us too.

The album has been called ‘a return to their roots’, while frontman Justin Young described the album as “brash, bold, rock and roll songs that mix melancholy and euphoria”.

He continued, saying his lyrics were primarily about “sex and love, and love lost.

“I really I became very self-aware a couple of years ago,” he continued. “I was insecure about the fact that all I sung about was sex and love. I realised it’s all I care about. So I’ve kind of come to terms with that.”

We can just feel it in the air how awesome this album is going to be – and 2018 is its year. Bring it on!

Pale Waves

Well, they’re just a special one, aren’t they?

Pale Waves’ infectious goth-pop grooves came knocking hard on our door at the end of last year, with the trust of The 1975’s vouching. Debut singles ‘There’s A Honey’ and ‘Television Romance’, released on Matt Healy’s Dirty Hit Records, smashed any expectations we had for the newest of new-wave bands.

We’ve known since last year that their debut EP, ‘All The Things I Never Said’, is seeing a release on 16 March – to which the single ‘New Year’s Eve’ got us EVEN MORE excited. But then last week, the band announced they were recording their debut album which will be released later this year! Too much emotion to handle, we say. So come let it all out with us on 1st July at Finsbury Park.

Tom Grennan

The soulful singer was one of 2017’s biggest wins. We loved his style and his grace – tunes like ‘Royal Highness’, ‘Something In The Water’ and the epic ‘Found What I’ve Been Looking For’ have hit us hard. His incredible new album, ‘Lighting Matches’ comes out on 10th March.

His unique brand of wideboy-soul is something that we’ve been looking for (ahem) it turns out, and it’s your time to catch him at the best day of the year, Community 2018.
